Bosun Tijani was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. After completing secondary education in Abeokuta, he pursued studies at the University of Jos, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2002. Further academic pursuits led to an MSc in Information Systems and Management from the Warwick Business School, UK, in 2007.
In 2023, Bosun Tijani secured a Ph.D. from the University of Leicester, focusing on innovation capacity’s role in developing countries’ progress. Notably, he explored network perspectives and innovation ecosystems’ dynamics, proposing alternative pathways for African nations.
His quest for knowledge extended to Harvard Kennedy School’s Innovation for Economic Development program in 2013. In 2014, he was selected as a Draper Hills Fellow at Stanford University’s Centre for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL). Tijani’s journey showcases his dedication to advancing innovation and economic growth.
Career
In 2010, he founded Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB), a leading innovation center in Africa that supports and connects entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, and social activists. CcHUB has incubated and accelerated over 200 startups and social enterprises, creating over 10,000 jobs and impacting over 15 million lives. Some of the notable projects and initiatives that Bosun Tijani led or supported include iHub, a network of innovation hubs across Africa; re:learn, an education technology platform that provides access to quality learning for children and young adults; GovLab, a civic innovation program that fosters collaboration between government and citizens; and WeCode, a coding academy that trains and mentors young software developers.
Bosun Tijani has received several awards and recognitions for his work and impact. He was named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2014, a Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year in 2018, and a Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 in 2019. He is also a fellow of the Aspen Institute’s Africa Leadership Initiative and a member of the Global Future Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
